Sunday roast at The Brewery Tap

A proper village pub Sunday lunch in Furneux Pelham, fifteen minutes from Bishop's Stortford. Rated 4.6 on TripAdvisor.

Sunday lunch here is built the slow way. The gravy takes 72 hours. The beef is a rump aged for 28 days, roasted and carved pink.

Every roast comes with herb and garlic roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding that towers over the plate, seasonal vegetables and that gravy, poured with a heavy hand.

There are four to choose from. The 28 day aged rump of beef. Great Garnetts pork belly with stuffing. Roast Norfolk turkey breast, also with stuffing. And for vegetarians, a mushroom and lentil loaf that gets the full treatment, Yorkshire and all. Roasts are £25, the vegetarian loaf £19.50, and gluten free options are available across the board. Just tell us about any allergies or dietary requirements when you order.

The roast

Whole-tail breaded scampi with triple cooked chips, peas and tartare sauce

It happens. The Sunday menu carries a handful of mains alongside the roasts.

Golden battered haddock with triple cooked chips, BBQ baby back ribs by the half or full rack, a homemade beef burger, and whole-tail breaded scampi.

Start with Korean fried chicken or 'Grace Makes Dough' sourdough with whipped butter, and finish with sticky toffee pudding or the lemon and honey cheesecake. Nobody at the table has to compromise.

DIRECTIONS

Make an afternoon of it.

Make an afternoon of it.

Arrive early for a pint in the garden, or stay on after your plate is cleared. Dogs are welcome, and children are properly catered for rather than merely tolerated.

We have a brilliant climbing frame in the garden, plenty of space to run around, and a box of toys inside for when they need distracting while you finish a quiet post-lunch glass of wine.

If the sun is too strong, the shaded canopy area has you covered. The pub has been the village's meeting place since it served as the tap house for the Rayments Brewery, and Sunday afternoons are what it was built for.
